Remember that if you are completing an IEE and you give an IQ test to an African American student in the state of CA, that district cannot take into consideration your IQ data. As a private practitioner, Larry P does not apply, but I always want to be certain who is going to be using this information. I tested a student that fell under the Larry P decision, but he was going to attend a private school and just needed accommodations. In that case, I could give an IQ test. If I were to do that same evaluation as an IEE, or even if I knew that the family would be sharing it with the public school, I would not give tests that they could not take into consideration.
You need to follow all ethical guidelines about choosing an environment to test the student. I definitely know LEPs that test in the student’s home if they believe the setting is appropriate and will not interfere with the standardization of administration and will not impact interpreting the results. Otherwise, many LEPs will rent space from a therapist or an agency, such as Regus, who will give office space temporarily.
